MEMBER TRAINING AVAILABLE

CONTACT:    Leonard Lee  llee1066@yahoo.com

One of the objectives for joining the Auxiliary is to obtain the excellent training that is available for members.  When we join we are considered Initially Qualified (IQ) by virtue of passing the new member exam and meeting entry qualifications.  If we had previously taken a boating safety course either through the Auxiliary or through the US Power Squadron or subsequently take the Auxiliary course and pass the exam, we are considered Basically Qualified (BQ).

As members, we are offered six excellent courses (Seamanship, Communications, Patrols, Weather, Navigation and Search & Rescue) which will round out our boating education.  When we successfully complete all of these, we will receive the distinction of AUXOP.  In addition to the satisfaction of obtaining advanced boating skills, an AUXOP can teach these advanced courses and can administer their tests.

The occupational qualifications that we can obtain are:  Boat Crew, Land Mobile Operator, Vessel Examiner, Instructor, Program Visitor, Aids to Navigation Verifier and various Marine Safety designations.  These are the main Auxiliary functions that we perform to assist the US Coast Guard in fulfilling the mission of promoting Public Boating Safety.  Several of these occupation specialties are also directed toward assisting the US Coast Guard in it's Homeland Security mission.  Watch Standing at the US Coast Guard Stations and patrolling on US Coast Guard vessels may be available though regular CG training.

Visit the Calendar on this website to see specific courses being offered.
